Two Wonderful Princess Cruise Ships to Choose from for Your Panama Canal Cruise

Both the Island Princess cruise ship and the Coral Princess cruise ship were designed to be just narrow enough to fit through the Panama Canal, yet have that big boat feel about them.

The Coral Princess cruise ship, like the Island Princess cruise ship, is just narrow enough to fit through the Panama Canal. These ships have about 2 feet to spare on each side while traversing the Locks. This feature also makes them ideal for Alaskan Inside Passage cruises and you will find both ships making Alaskan cruises in the summer, and Panama Canal cruises in the winter.

While being narrower, these Princess cruise ships are just as long as the Grand Class ships that have become the most popular. This gives these Princess cruise ships a slight “canoe like” appearance, but they have never experienced any problems with top heaviness, obviously they are a marvel of design. Because the Coral Princess and Island Princess cruise ships are narrower they have fewer inside cabins. This really is not a bad thing since they both visit such beautiful locations that everyone truly needs a balcony room anyway.

The itinerary for the Island Princess cruise ship and the Coral Princess cruise ship is very diverse, Coral Princess cruise shipwith Alaskan cruises filling their summers and Panama Canal cruises filling their winters. Most of the Panama Canal cruises are 14 or 15 day cruises between Los Angeles,California and Ft. Lauderdale,Florida. There are some variations thrown into the mix, but a more thorough check of the itineraries can be made when booking your dream vacation cruise.

Both of these Princess cruise ships have more balcony rooms, almost 800 on each ship, with the majority of those being balcony suites also. If you are considering a cruise to Alaska, you really should consider booking a balcony suite, since you really do not want to miss a moment of the fantastic scenery because you were not outside of your cabin. Yes, a balcony suite is going to be a bit more spendy than an inside room, but well worth the price. A lot depends on how much time you plan to spend relaxing in your room, but a balcony suite is highly recommended for these destinations.

Just because the Island Princess cruise ship and the Coral Princess cruise ship are narrower does not mean they have less amenities. In fact, most cruisers are mystified by the fact that they actually feel like they are on a bigger ship. This is in large part due to removing many of the interior cabins and giving the inside of the ship a much more roomy feeling. With only 1970 passengers versus 2600 passengers it's no wonder that people feel like they have more room to breath on the Island Princess cruise ship and the Coral Princess cruise ship.

The Island Princess cruise ship and the Coral Princess cruise ship have smaller youth centers than the Grand class cruise ships, making them more appropriate for a slightly older range of cruisers. Families with 2-10 year old children may want to seek out the larger ships with larger teen and youth centers, so that the children do not get “bored”. Most of the families with children older than 10 will not encounter this problem since the kids will love the scenery by this age. >
