Travel Insurance Should Be Considered Mandatory For A Cruise Vacation
Cruises, just like any other vacation, can have delays and minor problems that will upset those with too high of expectations. This is not to say that you should not expect the very best from the cruise line, but that you should also consider the variables that affect cruises.
Most cruisers do nothing but rave about their recent cruise because of the great time had and the wonderful scenery on their vacation. However, there are those that expect to be treated like a God because they are spending a lot of money on a cruise and do not take weather or mishaps into consideration. These people are often unsatisfied because they feel that everything should go according to THEIR PLAN, rather than giving room for mother nature and SNAFUs. Anyone that has been in the navy understands all about SNAFUs and will be prepared for them.
Mother nature is the biggest cause of delays on cruise ships. No one can control the weather, and if the Captain of the ship deems it unsafe for travel...you really should take his word for it and be thankful rather than upset over the delay. As a former commercial fisherman I can tell you that the ocean has a mind of it's own and that weather plays a critical role in boat operations. For this reason you should make sure to take out travel insurance for your cruise vacation. Weather delays can cause you to be late to depart, or late to make your plane flight back home when the cruise is done. Travel insurance will alleviate the aggravations and worries of missing a flight.
Some ports of call may have to be canceled due to bad weather or time lines not permitting the stop. For this reason I suggest that you do not book a guided tour for a certain time in ports of call. Do your research and figure out what you want to do and see at each port, then wait till you are there to make your tour booking. This can save you money and aggravation.
Travel insurance may not pay all the expenses of missed flights and motel bookings, but it will sure help to alleviate the impact on your wallet and mood. Of course you want to plan out your cruise perfectly before going, but remember that some of the best times to be had are spur of the moment, and keep delays in mind. This will ensure that you have a great time and are not concerned over delays and minor inconveniences, let the less prepared cruisers be upset, while you are sipping your marguerita and laughing at their foolish behavior.
Remember that a cruise is supposed to be a wonderful experience, not an occasion to get upset over the little stuff. Most everyone has a terrific time on their cruise vacation, and I want to make sure that you do also. Only those who are not prepared get upset over the stuff that cannot be controlled, so make sure you have your ducks in a row. Waiting to book your port tours and purchasing travel insurance are two of the best investments you can make. So have a wonderful cruise that you can smile about forever, and remember to let the small stuff slide, you are on vacation, throw your cares to the wind!
